100 years of innovation, reliability & quality

The Berluto Armaturen-Gesellschaft looks back on a 100-year company history. Today we are a medium-sized manufacturer of high-quality control valves, such as pressure reducing valves, overflow valves and float valves for use in buildings and in industrial applications.

1917: Jean Bergner has an idea...

Jean Bergner, a plumber from Düsseldorf, had been annoyed for some time about the often unreliable float valves for toilet flushing and was thinking about remedies. On July 31, 1917 he was granted the German Reich Patent for his particularly robust and reliable design of a new type of float valve.

1920: The company "Berluto" is born...

To produce and market his invention, Bergner founded the "Berluto Schwimmerhahngesellschaft Ludwig & Co." in 1920 together with the businessman Ludwig and the plumber Toeller. The name "Berluto" is therefore an abbreviation for the names of the founders "Bergner-Ludwig-Toeller".

1924: The "Berluto Armaturen AG" is founded...

In 1924, under the chairmanship of August Bender, the "Berluto Armaturen-Aktiengesellschaft" was formed, whose shareholders were numerous plumbers from the Cologne-Düsseldorf area; the company soon received the subtitle "Rheinisches Armaturenwerk". The product range mainly included float valves and floats, cisterns, flush valves and tapping fittings.

1953: Conversion to a GmbH...

In 1953 the AG was converted into the current GmbH. In the following years, the product range was extended by the development of safety valves, pressure reducers and filters.

1977: Move to Tönisvorst on the Lower Rhine...

In 1977, a new fittings factory was built in Tönisvorst (Lower Rhine) and the company headquarters moved there from Düsseldorf.

Today: Innovative technologies and flexible products for the industry

Today Berluto has a modern development and production facility in Tönisvorst on the Lower Rhine. Computer-aided development methods with direct CAD/CAM connection to CNC machining centres allow flexible production with consistently high precision and short throughput times. This enables us to produce larger series of fittings as well as special fittings tailored to customer requirements with the well-known high Berluto quality. While all materials used and certified (red-bronze, brass, stainless steel, sealing materials) are subjected to a precise incoming inspection before they are used in production, computer-controlled test systems at the end of the production chain ensure that the finished valves are subjected to 100% functional testing and quality assurance.

In addition to the production of building valves, the development and production of industrial valves has been considerably intensified and expanded over the last 10 years. The company is still managed today - already in the fourth generation - by descendants of the founders.
